Digital Maturity Attracts More Talent

In the last few years, we’ve seen more transformation driven by HR and talent acquisition than the previous 50 years. HR is on the forefront of introducing cutting edge technology and organizational change. New studies are coming out that prove talent is flocking to companies which embrace technology. In the joint study between MIT’s Sloan Management Review and Deloitte Digital, “Strategy, Not Technology, Drives Digital Transformation”, researchers found that talent is more attracted to digitally mature companies than previously imagined. It has become clear that digital maturity attracts talent. Employees have spoken and they want to be a part of an organization that embraces new technologies. Smart employers are learning that to attract more talent, they need to up their technology game.

Talent Is Attracted to Digitally Mature Organizations

In the study, more than 70 percent of respondents aged 22 to 60 expressed a desire to work for digitally mature companies. Those who worked for companies that did not embrace new technologies were left dissatisfied with the company overall.

This is not surprising since eMarketer estimates nearly 2 billion adults across the world own smart phones which now account for 83% of internet traffic. As technology progresses, our culture is increasingly shifting to embrace it. It’s not just the Millennials who are driving this adoption; even the old dogs are learning new tricks. GfK Research cites over 40% of adults aged 50+ are embracing new technology.

Attract Top Talent with Technology

HR and talent acquisition is in the middle of a digital revolution. We’ve long believed that employer branding is an important component to attract more talent. Part of this brand should naturally include the organization’s digital brand. It’s in this area that HR has become a leader.

Consider the popularity of companies like Google. Google has many opportunities for its employees to engage with new technologies from their initial video interviews to a culture built around digital expression. Their brand very clearly says we’re high tech! This is what attracts talent to their organization. This embedded culture of technology has led to happier employees overall. We can all take a lesson from a company so flush with applicants clamoring to work there. However, you don’t need to be a technology company to attract talent.
